Default NLL Rivals?

What are the team rivalries of the NLL?

Is Toronto a rival with Buffalo or Rochester?

Is Edmonton's only rival Calgary?

Let me know what you guys think

Knighthawks/ Bandits is by far the biggest rivalry in the league

Roughnecks/ Rush would be second

Rock or Wings/ Bandits would probably be next

As a Swarm fan I feel that our biggest rival is Washington. A lot of that I'm sure has to do with Wash going to 2 straight championship games and that the games always seem to be close no matter how good or bad the teams may be.

It seems to me that Roch and Beefalo have quite the rivalry as well which I would guess is part of being so close to each other.

Then of course you have the Battle for Alberta between Edmonton and Calgary.

The only rivalry the Rock will ever have is if Vancouver gets another franchise.

And I base this on the Mann cup. Toronto has played the Stealth twice recently for the championship so if they end up playing them again this year I suppose you could say there is a bit of rivalry there.

But for local fans, and I include Brampton and Peterborough and everything else in between Vancouver must exist.

The BEST rivalry was Wings/Bandits back in the day. Before the Wings became a joke.

In the modern era, Toronto-Rochester is probably my favourite.

Rivalries come from playoff wars. In 14 seasons, I think Toronto has met Rochester in a playoff matches 7 times, incl. 2 Division finals and three championship finals. I just wish the playoff rounds were series, so you could get the real hatred going by like game 3 or 4.

Toronto-Buffalo is a close second for me. Other than Buffalo-Rochester, I don't think there are two teams closer.

Wings have been awful for most of the last 12 years so that rivalry has thinned.

We don't get to see West teams enough to develop real rivalries, but the Calgary games are more fun than any....always unpredictable, and usually entertaining.

Default Rivalry

Rochester lost me when they traded Grant, Williams and the Evans bros.

Come on, if you're going to try and insult us, atleast be creative or make it funny.

This gets a ride on the failboat.

You bet your a$$ it was,I personally think that the then MILL got is deal with ESPN2 on the back of the rivalry!

I remember when the wings fans would fill 2 sections of the orange seats at the aud and man they could get loud.

Which makes what I saw not too long ago even more amazing...

When the Bandits presented Borelli's widow and father with a signed helmet and stuff,ALL AND I REPEAT ALL OF THE WINGS PLAYERS either raised their sticks OR did a clapping thing with the head of the stick..They all showed respect.

I miss the old North division from years ago: Calgary, Vancouver, Ottawa, and Toronto. It bothered me that Montreal was in the Central that one and only year. I believe that was a marketing error by the league.

Had the league put MTL in the North, all of the Canadian teams would have been in that Division and that might have helped MTL's press. MTL's Central rivals - Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, Columbus... there wasn't much historical rivalry between the cities whereas TOR and MTL have a nautral rivalry that goes back at least 100+ years. I'm not saying that the Express would have survived past that single season of 2001-2002, but there is a stronger likelihood that it would have. Who knows?... that might have helped keep VAN and OTT around and expedited expansion to EDM earlier.

In short, while I can't claim history would have been different, my intuition is very strong that not putting the Montreal Express in the North was a blunder.

Right now Buffalo is Rochester's biggest rivalry. I think a good part is the proximity, but I also think it is because both teams have been relatively good for so long. I view Toronto also as a rivalry with Roch as well. Philly, not so much, and I think a big part of that is their lack of success as of late. IMO, the biggest key to a rivalry is when it seems two teams are battling one another for several years for the top spot in the division.

I remember years back when the Buffalo Bills biggest rivalry was the Dolphins. Now that both teams have sunk into mediocrity (yes, I am being generous), that rivalry has gone by the wayside. I think people look at NE as perhaps the Bills biggest rivalry now...and that's likely because NE has been the dominant team in the division.

Colorado-Calgary for about 5 years was as nasty as it got.

How's this for a North Division?

Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Montreal.

I'd love it although I wish Québec City was there and Ottawa was back.

Buffalo vs Toronto is the current big one if you are looking for two teams who hate on each other
