This still happens regularly. It's also not uncommon for someone to buy a domain name (URL) to sell back because the owner accidentally let their lease expire. Expired domain names are usually auctioned off immediately.

What's the origin of the New York Saints name? Was it always in reference to Saint Bernards?

Unsure if that's the origin of the name itself, but it just occurred to me why the logo is a dog....

Whether the name is in reference to dogs or religious figures, my bigger question is...why? Is there some New York history there?

LOL you thought it was just there for funsies?

That's why I liked it so much. It was unique. "Saints" isn't uncommon, but using it in reference to a large dog is.... although they did have a halo over the wordmark.

I really never gave it a ton of thought to be honest. I always just kinda of thought "hmm, a dog. Cool." when I'd see the logo previously.

No. It was the NJ Saints in 1987 with the halo around the J. St. Bernard logo was added towards the end of their run.

Ok, huh. Any idea why they originally chose the Saints moniker?

Probably random. Saints, Thunder, Wave. Only the Wings had history.

Most likely the Saints were named as an opposite to the Devils playing in the same arena.

The Wings were part if the original NLL in 1974 & 1975. Had the best attendance as they did when they returned in '87.

Oh, I meant if the name had any connection to the local area.

Don't know. Maybe some of the older Wings fans can answer.
