OWEN SOUND, ON – Statement from Sharon McKeachnie, Commissioner of the Ontario Senior B Lacrosse League:

On February 29, 2016, the Ontario Senior B Lacrosse Council received written notification from St. Catharines Saints General Manager Dave Colbourne that the club intended to cease operations effective immediately. Mr. Colbourne stated that financial reasons were behind the Saints’ decision to dissolve, including an unfavourable floor time contract offer from the City of St. Catharines for the upcoming season and substantial CLA fines levied against the club as a result of discipline incurred by the team during 2015 President’s Cup play. Mr. Colbourne also stated that relocation attempts were made in various cities prior to the decision to cease operations, but a suitable home for the Saints’ franchise could not be found ahead of the 2016 season. As a result of St. Catharines’ notification, a dispersal draft was held to allocate the playing rights of the Saints’ roster to the remaining six teams of the Ontario Senior B Lacrosse League.
